Dangerous Garage Fire in Hudson [4 Images]

Hudson Firefighters were sent out at 19:26 for numerous calls of a structure fire to the rear of City Hall. On arrival, Chief Paul Beaumont reported a working garage fire which was at the rear of 518 Warren Street, next door to City Hall. 1st due Engine 30 began the initial attack with two, 2 inch handlines and almost immediately faced extreme danger when high voltage power lines dropped due to heavy fire exposure. Command immediately requested a line crew from National Grid to respond as soon as possible. The wires fell to the ground and began arcing furiously, they were also draped across a small vehicle parked to the rear of 516 Warren. After the initial building had all visible fire knocked down, the vehicle at 516 ignited. Members used dry powder extinguishers to delay fire spread from the new vehicle fire. Immediate exposure threats with this fire were a large SUV (also behind 516) and a garage at the rear of 514 Warren. Just as National Grid arrived both the Garage at 514 and the SUV at 516 became involved in fire. National Grid Quickly cut power to the lines and several crews went to work knocking down the fire. An interior attack was used in attic of the garage at 514 and the fire within was rapidly controlled with the help of a thermal imager. The garage at 518 Warren was heavily damaged and a passenger vehicle within was destroyed. Both vehicles at 516 were heavily damaged, and the garage at 514 received fire damage to the interior and exterior wall facing the vehicle fire. Greenport M-25 came in on the initial hit as the F.A.S.T. Truck and a Standby assignment was dispatched to the Central Station to cover other calls in the city. Greenport Rescue Squad Paramedics transported one subject with burns to his legs from the initial garage fire. His injuries were received while he was working on the gas tank of a vehicle in the garage when a kerosene heater ignited the gasoline fumes.
